Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

About Starfish

New Zealand Resin Artist

My interest in resin was ignited 15 years ago when I wanted to preserve a photo of a friend's late father on a ceramic tile.  The tile was to be mounted to schist rock in the extreme weather of Central Otago.  I coated the photo in Art Resin a premium epoxy resin.  The tile is still there standing the test of time.

Working with  resin sparked a passion for how it could be applied to so many great applications.

The application of so many beautiful colours, the flow and the calmness in the creation of all of the artwork.

Living by the beach, I specialises in ocean resin surf wave lacing and beach resin designs.

I love teaching my techniques through my resin art classes here in my studio in Dunedin as well as creating online resin art tutorials on my You tube channel..

The workshops are a lovely way to share my passion and knowledge.

Photography

I have been a professional photographer for over 26 years and worked in many photography fields.  My journey led to capturing the beauty of our landscape through photography.  Living on the coast in Brighton I am reminded daily of how beautiful this part of New Zealand is and I find inspiration in every turn.

The Funeral Industry

For the past six years I have also proudly worked alongside Tributes Funeral Supplies, a Dunedin based company that supplies funeral homes throughout New Zealand with quality eco-friendly products.

They stock a range of my limited edition photographs from my portfolio and I am also is able to produce cremation scatter tube urns that are custom designed for individuals using my graphic design skills.

These beautiful urns are sent to funeral homes throughout New Zealand.

This part of Starfish Design is pretty special and something I truly love to be able to do.

Ceramic Artist

30 years ago my father built me a pottery wheel, I had an old kiln and was hand building dragons and animals.

Now I am back and ready to do it all again having had a few decades off.   I love the process of pottery and have a small kiln and mud room set up close to my studio.  It is my relaxation - working with my hands and creating something.  I am excited to be doing this again and I hope to offer pottery classes later this year to share this passion.

Beekeeping and Essential oil distillation

I am a qualified beekeeper and have a small apiary on our farm.  The bees are incredible to learn about and so vital to our survival and food chain.  I have been working with bees for approx 5 years.  A side benefit was planting out a small lavender field for the bees that then led to investing in a traditional copper alembic still to distill the lavender oil.  I have been distilling many of our plants from the farm and I just love the natural benefits of these to my families skin and health.  It blows my mind how cool this process is to capture the pure essence of a plant, its smell, its goodness.
